Central Michigan Announces 2023 Football Schedule

Chippewas to host five home games in 2023: New Hampshire (Sept. 9), Eastern Michigan (Sept. 30), Akron (Oct. 14, Homecoming Game), Northern Illinois (Oct. 31), and Toledo (Nov. 24). Road games: season opener at Michigan State (Sept. 2), at Notre Dame (Sept. 16), at South Alabama (Sept. 23) and MAC matchups at Buffalo (Oct. 7), at Ball State (Oct. 21), at Western Michigan (Nov. 7), and at Ohio (Nov. 15).

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich.—Featuring five home games and seven road contests including Power-5 opponents Michigan State and Notre Dame, Central Michigan announced its complete 12-game 2023 football schedule on Wednesday morning. Central Michigan and the Mid-American Conference will announce kickoff times, television appearances, and a preseason training camp schedule at a later date.
 
2023 Central Michigan Football season tickets go on sale on Monday, March 6 at 10 a.m. Tickets can be purchased or renewed through Ticket Central at cmuchippewas.com or by calling the CMU Athletics Ticket Office at (989) 774-3045. Lock in your tickets now for the best seats at the best value. This year, CMU is also selling non conference road game tickets which include games at Michigan State, Notre Dame, and South Alabama. Details will be announced later in March and priority will go to Chippewa Athletic Fund members.
 
Year five of the Jim McElwain Era at CMU will feature five home games on Kramer/Deromedi Field at Kelly/Shorts Stadium. Central Michigan will host Football Championship Subdivision New Hampshire on Saturday, Sept. 9 in its home opener. The Chippewas then open MAC play on Saturday, Sept. 30 against Eastern Michigan. Home games follow against Akron (Saturday, Oct. 14 for Homecoming), Northern Illinois (Tuesday, Oct. 31), and Toledo (Friday, Nov. 24, the day after Thanksgiving).
 
Central Michigan will play seven road contests in 2023. The Chippewas open their season at Michigan State on Saturday, Sept. 2, play at Notre Dame on Saturday, Sept. 16, travel to South Alabama (Saturday, Sept. 23), then play four MAC away games at Buffalo (Saturday, Oct. 7), at Ball State (Saturday, Oct. 21), at Western Michigan (Tuesday, Nov. 7), and at Ohio (Wednesday, Nov. 15).


The Chippewas will begin their season with eight consecutive Saturday games, followed by three mid-week MACtion games.
 
Six of the Chippewas' 2023 opponents played in bowl games last season: Notre Dame (Gator Bowl), South Alabama (R+L Carriers New Orleans Bowl), Toledo (RoofClaim.com Boca Raton Bowl), Eastern Michigan (Famous Idaho Potato Bowl), Buffalo (Camellia Bowl), and Ohio (Barstool Sports Arizona Bowl).
 
The Chippewas return a total of 15 starters (seven on offense and eight on defense) and a host of players who saw extensive action during the 2022 season. As a whole, CMU returns 64 total letterwinners.
 
Four All-MAC honorees return to the squad in first team cornerback Donte Kent, guard Deiyantei Powell-Woods, linebacker Kyle Moretti, and safety/kickoff return specialist De'Javion Stepney.
 
Central Michigan opens spring practice later in March. The Chippewas will practice 12 times and hold several scrimmages between Sunday, March 19 and Friday, April 14. CMU's NFL Pro Day is scheduled for March 15 at the Indoor Athletic Center's Turf Bay.
